Making quality text is not an innate thing. No matter how talented you are at writing, there are techniques that have to be applied to get your reader’s attention. But for this there are some tips that I have used in my texts and I will tell in that article. This is not the secret of the gods. It is a mixture of what I learned from reading some books, but mostly from my experience writing in newspapers.

Is it difficult to write quality?

It is and at the same time it is not. Like everything else in life, writing a quality article is a mix of lots of practice with some talent. While talent is really an innate thing, writing work can be done in two ways. Writing (of course) and reading. I spend about an hour of my day reading and maybe five or six hours writing. I am not saying that this is the right measure for you. Each case is a case, but what I want the reader to realize is that in order to achieve a good level of writing, it takes hundreds of written texts and much study.

But for the reader to write on a blog, do not expect to be prepared to write there. Create your blog today and start talking about your passion. Do not worry about details like how or what others will think about your texts. Just start writing and practicing your writing. But for that, I advise you to take a look at our 10 tips for writing a fantastic article:

1. The first paragraph

Many writers like to scroll, curl and … scroll! Do not go straight to the subject and end up leaving the reader lost without knowing what he is reading, often ending up abandoning the text before they reach the essential part. For this I give you a tip: the first paragraph is essential. Not just because it is determinant for search engines, but mainly because it is at this stage that more readers abandon the text! I do not know exact statistics, but a bad first paragraph can ward off about 80% of readers.

The first few lines of your text should always be an introduction mix with a brief summary of what you are going to say. So he will not be making the text monotonous or leaving out what is really essential: the subject he speaks about. Apply in the first paragraph if you want to increase the likelihood that your readers will read your text to the end.

2. Be direct

It is important that everything you transmit is direct. That at the moment the readers make the most of their doubts and that they perceive everything that was written. “If I was too stupid, could I understand this text?” This is the question you should ask when you are reading your text. Let go of expensive words just to look like you’re smarter than most. It is crucial that almost all readers notice everything you have written. Opt for simple words and if you think that the reader will not perceive what you have written, “translate” in the next sentence what you wanted to say.

3. Short phrases

Beware of those phrases that never seem to finish. A sentence with five words has much more power than another with 30. But if you say less things, how can it have more meaning? Let me explain. If you are reading a sentence with 30 words, the more likely you are to reach the last word and not even remember the first word. Do not break the reading ability and opt for shorter sentences. It is obvious that sometimes it does not, but avoid such situations whenever possible.

In addition, using fewer words gives a sense of order. This is essential, since writing a text is trying to teach something and when people are learning they need to be given orders. Number of words is not quality.

4. Divide in several points

This tip is essentially for easier reading. If you notice, here in the blog I like to separate the texts by several points. This is so that the reader can more easily organize his ideas when he reads the text. Having huge paragraphs causes a visual confusion to the reader, eventually dispelling the attention of the text. Avoid writing more than three paragraphs per point. From there go to another title.

Imagine the speech of a politician. Have you noticed that they share everything they say in points. “I wanted to start by saying this” or “these are the four main problems of our society” are just examples of a political discourse. Thus, it makes the imagination of the one who is listening to him begin to create images of what he says. Can anyone imagine a lot of lyrics in a row? No. And when you divide this by points? It gets easier.

5. Connect one phrase to another

Sometimes I feel like losing myself when I read texts. This happens because the ending sentence ends up having no connection with the previous one. This causes a rationale in the reader, which is lost without knowing where to connect the end of a sentence with the beginning of the other. So do not think of a phrase in an isolated way but rather as the continuation of your reasoning.

If you can grasp the adjective you use in one sentence to start the other. Let me give you an example. “The school’s investment in new technologies was huge. Great were also the teachers’ efforts to get the new material. ” This is a small example but there are many more. Notice how I called the “huge” to the “big.” When using two adjectives (always use synonyms and avoid the same word), it makes reading easier, increasing the chances that the reader will continue reading your text.

6. Beware of punctuation

Do you love using ellipses or exclamation marks? Maybe he’s on the wrong track. Many writers love to abuse this, thinking that your text gets more quality. But I regret to inform you that what gives beauty to a text are the words that are used and the connection that they have. Abusing the score ends up leaving the reader lost and not knowing what to do and how to interpret those signals. Use them only in the latter case.

7. Make a logical sequence

Think of your text as a construction. It has to have a beginning, a middle and an end. So you have to balance the logic with having to be direct. I’ll make life easier for you. Pay attention to the points that your text should follow:

Start by introducing the theme giving a little idea of what you are going to talk about. However, do not reveal everything already. Show only the beginning of the problems

Explain the reasons why you are talking about this topic and what can happen to the reader if you do not pay attention to it. In this way, you will be arousing curiosity to the reader

Start figuring out the solution to the problem you presented. If you chose to divide by points, define the most important solutions as the odd ones (points 1, 3, 5, etc.) so as not to numb the reader. So when he starts to find a less interesting part, in the next paragraph you’ll find another one that catches your eye

If you can, come up with extra solutions that are not as relevant as the previous ones but that work as a bonus

Conclude by summarizing what you did, in a quick and succinct way

Leave a question in order to generate more comments

Following this logic is important so that your readers get used to a genre of text. If one day you write but the next text completely changes the way you write, you will be pleasing a larger number of readers but no one at the same time. Work in an organized way until you write.

8. Ask questions in the middle of the text

In addition to transmitting information, you need to take your reader to action. And when I say it. I’m not just talking about leaving a comment at the end of the article. It means that the reader in the middle of the text will have to wonder about what is reading, will have to pull by the head itself. For this nothing better than … answer a question. So sometimes the middle of the article asks a question. The answer should be obvious, to convey to the reader that he is aware of the subject.

9. Beware of repetition!

Sometimes I see writers on blogs who like to repeat a thousand times the keywords. I know this helps with indexing, but do not abuse it! That should have a limit. And that limit is the reader’s perception of the text. What good is a well-ranked text if no one has the patience to read it? Get the balance between the keywords and a fluid reading of the text.

10. The rule of three

This is the last advice but not the same important. When you want to refer to anything, speak to it three times. Let me give you an example. Remember the beginning of the text? We start with “Be a lawyer, psychologist or journalist ..”. Now if you look carefully, every time we want to enumerate something we use it three times. The reason is simple. Once is little, two continues to know by little and three is balanced. This technique is widely used by Barack Obama. Pay attention when he speaks and you will see this detail.
